Music Box Mascaron

I made the Music Box Mascaron collage in 2017 as a study for the larger Music Box piece that was completed in 2022. I am interested in the symmetry aspects of this composition. The Music Box Theatre in Lakeview provided the reference and inspiration for these pieces. There are two mermaids facing each other on the theater’s façade, a pair of snails, two lion heads, and a single mascaron character. I created a series of collages with varied compositions of the mermaid characters, the snails, the lions and the mascaron, playing with the symmetrical harmony of the architecture.

The Music Box Theatre is located at 3733 North Southport Avenue in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.
