The Old Town Gate painting is a form study made for the larger “Morton Salt” collage. (Work on this collage piece is currently in progress and “Morton Salt” is a working title.)
The Old Town Gate is part of a series of paintings that was also made to study color mapping, specifically mapping the Fibonacci sequence F1..F11 to tints of Prussian blue and burnt sienna respectively. The Fibonacci sequence is used in the formulation of the color recipes as well as in the geometrical placement of each color along the long dimension of the paintings.
