The Totem Pole of Lincoln Park and the Boystown Rainbow Pylons paintings are a pair of form studies made for the larger Gentlemen piece.
This series of paintings was also made to study color mapping, specifically mapping the Fibonacci sequence F1..F11 to tints of Prussian blue and burnt sienna respectively. The Fibonacci sequence is used in the formulation of the color recipes as well as in the geometrical placement of each color along the long dimension of the paintings.
