I made the Uptown Mascarons collage in 2016 as a study for the larger Uptown Riviera piece.
The building facades, classic neon signs and marquees of the Uptown Theater and the Riviera Theater (the “Riv”) provided the reference and inspiration for these pieces. Both venues are historic landmarks.
The Uptown Theater movie palace is located at 4816 North Broadway. The Riviera Theater is at 4746 North Racine Avenue in the historic theater district in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.
